Testimony-based learning and digital storytelling in school

Within REM HERITAGE, students of Grade 11 at Deutsche Schule Athen worked on Holocaust remembrance through biographical testimonies, historical sources, and digital storytelling.

The activity connected classroom-based historical learning with creative reflection. Students engaged with testimonies and oral-history material, including the archive “Memories of the Occupation in Greece / Erinnerungen an die Okkupation in Griechenland” of Freie Universität Berlin, and transformed their reflections into short filmic narratives. The students produced 20 short videos as part of this intensive process.

Key results included student-produced digital stories, deeper engagement with individual biographies and testimonies, and a stronger connection between historical remembrance and present-day questions of exclusion, antisemitism, racism, and civic responsibility.
