Innovative teaching approaches

At the heart of the REM Heritage project’s educational mission is a series of innovative workshops designed to bring Holocaust remembrance and intergenerational memory alive for young people.

These workshops were implemented across four European countries — Greece, Poland, Cyprus and Belgium — engaging students where the history of World War II and its legacy carries distinct local resonance.

In total, more than 480 students participated in interactive sessions implemented between September and December 2025. Through structured creative processes, they co-created more than 100 digital stories that combine historical memory, personal reflection and student voice.

Interactive workshops

A series of interactive workshops organised across all partner countries between January and May 2026, reaching more than 300 young people in total.

Each workshop brought together groups of 18–25-year-olds from diverse backgrounds, religions and communities — including newcomers and migrants — creating a genuinely inclusive space for dialogue.

Rather than lecture-style delivery, participants worked in smaller teams, beginning with “get to know each other” activities before moving into deeper conversations guided by semi-structured questions and audio-visual material on the Holocaust and racism.

National capacity building campaigns

Building on the outcomes of the workshops and digital storytelling activities, a series of national capacity-building campaigns will be organised in each partner country, bringing together a carefully selected mix of voices and expertise.

Each campaign will bring together young people with experts, stakeholders and professionals drawn from national administration, educational institutions and civil society — including members of Jewish communities and other national and religious minority groups.

The campaigns transform the project’s educational work into a broader civic conversation aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and embedding Holocaust remembrance more deeply into national education and public life.

Youth Ambassadors Network

The Youth Ambassadors Network represents the project’s long-term commitment to sustaining impact well beyond the life of REM Heritage.

Young people who participated in the project will be selected to continue the work implemented during the project and become ambassadors.

Operating under a shared Network Strategy, the Ambassadors will have an active leadership role rather than a passive one.

Conferences and webinars

To amplify the project’s reach and deepen the conversation beyond its direct participants, REM Heritage will organise five dedicated online events bringing together educators, experts, policymakers and other relevant stakeholders from across Europe.

These events — comprising online webinars, transnational exchanges, a mid-term conference and a final conference — are designed to create sustained momentum around Holocaust remembrance and education throughout the life of the project and beyond.

By connecting voices from different countries, disciplines and communities in an open online format, these events ensure that the insights and outcomes of REM Heritage travel beyond the partner countries and feed into the wider European conversation on memory, identity and the fight against antisemitism and racism.
